With a capacity of 57,000 spectators, it is the second-largest stadium in Argentina. It was built to serve as one of the venues for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina. It was remodeled for the 2011 American Cup, and the entire lighting system was changed to allow high-definition television broadcasting. The project focused on installing solar panels to utilize the roof surface for efficient solar energy generation. This design approach ensured that the load on the structure was evenly distributed. The project demonstrates the integration of sustainable energy solutions in a central sports facility.
