AU2026 takeaways: AI is the tool, judgment is the craft  | Corbis: News & Agenda

Another Autodesk University edition has come to an end, providing insights on what happened and what is coming next. AI is still the hot topic, but in this conversation, keeping a human in the loop is non-negotiable.

First of all, shoutout to Autodesk for pulling off such an amazing event, once again. The scale of the conference and its global reach, with speakers, collaborators and visitors from all around the world, is simply impressive. On top of that, the quantity and quality of technical sessions was remarkable. These events clearly demonstrate why Autodesk is the market leader in construction software development.

Autodesk University brought together the most influential industry peers throughout a 3-day event

Secondly, moving on to our thoughts on the event, AI is still at the forefront of the conversation, which is nothing new. However, the hype seems to be dying down a bit, and the importance of having a human in the loop is undeniable.

The conversation is shifting from 'AI is replacing us all' towards a more realistic 'AI is here to enhance our capabilities'.

This might not look like much, but it's a totally different game when you understand the implications of both approaches.

Without a doubt, AI will continue to have a significant and growing impact. There’s no question about that. However, the impact of a professional with common sense, industry know-how, and sound interpretation capabilities is becoming increasingly critical for succeeding in the ever-evolving complexity of projects. In this sense, AI is presented as a powerful assistant more than as a replacement.

Additionally, since Autodesk presented Forma as its ecosystem last year, many tools have evolved from beta versions into more consolidated applications, solutions, and workflows. The impact on productivity is now clearly visible.

The real challenge is to keep up, so as not to be left behind.

Valuable takeaways emerged not only from the conferences but also from conversations with industry peers.

Overall, it was a great experience with loads of information about a human-centered view of AI. Now it's time to process and incorporate all that knowledge into our own workflows to keep Perfecting Project Delivery.
